Decks, docks and stairs

Decks, docks and stairs

Decks, docks, landings and seawall stairs, built for salt air, sun and the people who use them every day.

Decks, docks and stairs, done the carpenter's way.

Decks and docks live in the hardest conditions a carpenter builds for: full sun, standing water, salt air and constant foot traffic. Framing, fasteners and spacing all have to be chosen for that, and stairs have to be steady and even under every step.

The photos on this page are Coastline jobs: a dock with new stairs down from the seawall, a landing on the water, and a deck built around a waterfront tiki hut.

What we build

DecksGround-level and raised wood decks with railings and stairs.
DocksDock decking, framing and repairs on the water.
Seawall stairsStairs and landings from the yard down to the dock.
RailingsWood railings that are solid to lean on and finished cleanly.

Before you build

  • Permits: docks and work over water usually need permits and sometimes more than one agency. Plan for that time.
  • Materials: pressure-treated lumber rated for ground and water contact, or composite decking for less upkeep.
  • Fasteners and hardware: stainless or coated hardware holds up far better near salt water.
  • Access: how materials reach the site, especially on the water, affects the plan.

Questions

Decks, docks and stairs FAQ

Can you repair an existing dock or deck?

Send photos of the whole structure and the problem areas in the estimate form. Brad will tell you whether repair or rebuild makes more sense.

Wood or composite decking?

Wood costs less up front and looks warm; composite needs less upkeep. Brad can walk you through both for your spot.
